Lutron Grafik RA2: Affordable single-room lighting control!!

Lutron have a great little product on their hands called Lutron GrafikRA2. GrafikRA2 is a single area, comprehensive wireless lighting and shading solution that's ideal for new construction or renovation/retro fitting. The system comprises of keypads, light controls, sensors and window/blind controls.

We are currently in the midst of converting a basement area into a den/media room. The room has 6 zones of lighting aswell as a skylight that needs blind control. The area was too small for a complex system such as Lutron Homeworks or Crestron and the costs of these systems wouldn't have been economical on such a small scale. A smaller, but still full-featured system was needed and GrafikRA fitted the bill perfectly.

GrafikRA gave us full dimming control over our circuits and also gave us control over 2 sets of blinds but really importantly to the client, it gave iPad/iPhone control of the whole system using a beautifully designed app.

Now, usually a system with these features from the market leader in lighting control, you would expect to pay thousands and thousands of pounds, but the great thing about GrafikRA is the price point. For single room solutions it just can't be beaten. The system cost under £1500, programming is minimal and the iPad app literally configures itself.

We will post images during the project so you can keep track of our progress, but if you are looking for something similar please contact us today. We offer a free visit and no obligation quotation service.

PS. And we've heard a whisper that the Lutron GrafikRA2 system is going to be one of the first systems to be supported by Lutron's Home+ Apple Watch app.

Completion of Knightsbridge Apartment

We've just completed an amazing project in the heart of Knightsbridge. The project includes Lutron lighting, curtain and blind control, high-spec LED lighting and a small but future-proofed AV system. We've attached some photos below for you below.

This project was fun but very challenging. Everything about the townhouse was high-spec and the level of detail required from us was the most demanding we've ever worked under. The Lutron system in particular had to be designed circuit-by-circuit as there was so many different types of lighting and load types. Many AV companies when installing lighting systems just connect a circuit to a dimmer and that would be it, but at CEAV we pay much more attention to detail. Depending on the light attached, we contact the manufacturer and add the fixtures dimming characteristics to our lighting program, this small but significant programming effort has a massive visual effect on the system. Different lights of different types dim and turn on and off together in a linear fashion which can only be observed on a system which has been commissioned in this manner.

The client was very particular in having the latest technology but didn't want it to stand out, instead they wanted it to blend into the decor of each room. We commissioned customised wall switches matching the same antique-bronze found on door furniture in the apartment to keep a consistent theme. We also had every button engraved to make the system easier to use. Each switch controlled the lighting, curtains and blinds in a room.

We also installed a simple but effected audio visual system. From a centralised point we distributed HD video to 4 TVs in the main areas of the apartment. As requested, all technology was hidden and the only item visible in each room was the TV itself. This simple but elegant system enabled the client to watch and control Sky HD, Apple TV and their favourite Blu-rays in any room in the house without any fuss. The system was ultra-reliable and super-simple to use.

Lutron Lighting Panel Revisit

We thought we'd re-visit an old favourite of ours, a Lutron QS lighting panel that we tweeted a photo of a month ago. After posting the photo we received over a dozen leads and a prestigious retweet and "favourite" from Lutron themselves!!!

This was one of 4 lighting panels in this particular Mayfair townhouse in which we designed, installed, commissioned and programmed the entire system!

Apple releases WatchKit developer tools

Yesterday Apple released the first version of their development kit for the forthcoming Apple Watch. A few surprises have been noted by the first developers to get their hands on the kit. Namely the fact that the Apple Watch will simply be an external screen of sorts and your iPhone will actually take care of all the processing. Nevertheless, we can't wait to start developing on the new platform.

We have already started looking at integrating the device into Crestron and Lutron home automation systems using a custom CEAV app. We want to take advantage of the push notification abilities of the Apple watch and of your iPhone. Imagine the following.... The lamp on your projector is nearing it's end of life.... Your watch notifies you. You're at work and your intruder alarm is activated, your watch notifies you. You leave the lights on when you go out, and you guessed it, your watch notifies you!!

We can't wait to offer this level of customisation to our customers.
